BLACKPINK is Time’s Entertainer of the Year

Time Magazine has named the K-pop group BLACKPINK the Entertainer of the Year for 2022.

The group members, Jennie, Jisoo, Rosé, and Lisa, are on the cover of the biweekly magazine’s December 26 to January 9 issue.

“BLACKPINK has become the biggest girl group in the world by letting its members be solo stars in their own right,” Time said in an Instagram post on December 6.

The magazine said, “As culture becomes more stratified, BLACKPINK has succeeded by getting our attention everywhere we can give it: not just in our headphones, but also in fashion and on screen.”

Time Magazine wrote in its article about BLACKPINK that it has been a big year for the group. In August, BLACKPINK was the first K-pop girl group to perform at the MTV VMAs. In September, they came back with a new album called Born Pink, and in October, they started their “blockbuster world tour.”

Each group member has put much effort into their solo career in the past few years. Lisa won a VMA for her first solo single, “Lalisa,” in 2021. She was the first K-pop solo artist to do so. Jisoo’s first role was in the Korean TV show Snowdrop, which ran from September to January. Jennie will make her big-screen debut in the next season of The Idol on HBO. Rosé released her first solo album, R, in 2021 and went to the Met Gala that same year.

BLACKPINK debuted in 2016 under YG Entertainment.
