“FROM PANDEMIC TO PANIC”
“Mental health is not a destination but a process. It’s about how you drive and not where you’re going.”
2020, the year that is deemed as a giver and a taker. Heartache, pain, frustration, uncertainty and devastation Covid-19 has thrown at us. The pandemic has shown us that amidst all the chaos and confusion, it is of utmost importance to take care of the mind. Good mental health is paramount for us to emerge as victors against this dreaded monster.
Stress is our biggest destroyer, and Covid-19 came loaded. She plays with our emotions and insecurities leaving us vulnerable to mental apathy. Help your minds, remember to pause, breathe, and notice how you feel.
Mental awareness is equally important as our survival instincts. We owe it to ourselves to be armed with vital information on current affairs and media rhetoric that affects our mental well-being. It is important to know when to deviate from toxic, negative content, and focus on the positives of life. The delivery of news from different media houses and platforms can be depressing and may also contribute to mental deterioration.
We should employ self-care measures, exercise, eat healthily, consume enough water, and get adequate rest. Shh’ steal a little sweet treat too, grab a delicious banana cake at Good 2 Go West Indian Grocery. Your taste buds and emotions will thank you for it.
Adios, Bon Voyage Corona, we will be happy to see the end of you as you’ve deprived us of much. Lack of freedom to traverse and interact freely as you’ve brought social distance into existence. An emotional roller coaster set into motion, from the loss of our loved ones to the loss of our livelihood and the taming of our ability to be affectionate to others. Worries only add to the stress of yesterday. I urge you to talk it out, reach out and stay connected
It is said that if God takes you to it he will take through it. Exercise your faith and know that God is the restorer of all broken souls.
“Just because no one else can heal or do your inner work for you, doesn’t mean you can, should, or need to do it alone”

Love your quote “if god take you to it he will take you through it.”
Thank you dear. God always takes care of his children.
Our college motto speaks aptly to this ” A sound mind in a sound body”.
Too often we engulf vicarious trauma and pass it off to our loved ones without realizing the deep impact. Not until we acknowledge that mental health disorder is not about eating from the garbage bins, its depression, anxiety, stress and a myriad of so called minor glitches. I am a victim of taking on too much to try and save the world while neglecting my own sanity. You have to be well in order to help others
Perfectly said, Alecia! As you so pointed out that we only acknowledge mental health issues when it reaches a certain state. Ignorance is a killer, and I think our people need to be sensitized in regards to said topic.
# self-care is paramount.
# The college motto makes perfect sense, could we try and stand true to that motto?
