“The madness of love is the greatest of heaven’s blessings”
 – Plato

Hello 2021!!!  And Happy New Year to all you amazing people from sweet, sweet TnT!  It is going to be a great year; I can feel it in my bones.

At this time, as is traditional every New Year, I have been reflecting on what a whirlwind of a year that 2020 was and thinking about possible “New Year Resolutions” that might be worth considering as this year gets on its way. Here are three things to get you started that I have adopted to which I intend to re-commit that I believe are sure-fire steps to having a good and prosperous 2021.

First, make a habit of giving thanks for all that you have, all that you do and all that you have accomplished so far, every single day. Count those blessings. There is ALWAYS something to be thankful for.  Everything is a gift.  Never take that for granted.  When we instead chose to dwell on the negative and find ourselves complaining constantly without realizing it, we are giving the power to let someone steal our joy.   An attitude of gratitude makes room for more blessings to come so cultivate it carefully and make it a part of your new M.O.

Second, decide to practice forgiveness. The first step to committing to this is to realize that forgiveness never exonerates the perpetrator but instead liberates the victim. It is a gift that you give to yourself and an important key to a long and happy life.  Unforgiveness on the other hand is a tool of the evil one and serves to block our blessings when we choose not to forgive.  It is a welcome mat for misery and each time we relive the circumstances that upset us it is as if we reconnect with the hurt and must decide again to forgive.  Yeah, forgiveness is never a one and done deal it is a daily (sometimes hourly) commitment.  “…seventy times seven times” is no joke! This may well be one of the hardest lessons I have had to learn in life, but it is critical to your happiness. So, get on that forgiveness train and start freeing yourself from the chains of unforgiveness today.  It is going to be a long ride, but I promise you it will be worth it.

Finally, choose to love – unconditionally – because love changes everything. The truth is we were created out of love, born into love and are surrounded by love always. If only we would open our eyes to this reality it would be obvious that our number one purpose in life is to return this love.  It is up to us to recognize this and to offer a response of love by sharing our love to all we meet.  If we understood that it was for this that we were created, then believe me nothing else would matter.  Because nothing else really does.  The madness of love is the greatest of heaven’s blessings – Plato

So, there you have it, my top three decisions for 2021.  Next on the agenda – eliminating young people’s oppression and that of women, people of the global majority, (aka people of color – we are the majority…that is a fact!) the poor, and by and large dismantling the foundations of the oppressive society that have us living in fear and inequality based on an assumption of race that gives privileges to those who are “white” or closest to “white” which is but a social construct and not a race per se. Thank you COVID-19 and 2020 for unveiling many aspects of the lies that we have been fed and giving us a chance to see in  a really bold way the harsh realities of our existence so that we could move towards a revolutionary change that is so needed in this crazy world.  Not to worry though, we have all of 2021 to dive into these issues and more, so be certain to check in next Monday as I continue to share my insights on how we are going to change the world – Absolutely!

In closing remember, give thanks always, forgive constantly, love dearly and you will change the world
