Happy Absolute Monday everyone! It is me here again – Epik Liz! And I want to start off by saying I truly hope that all is going well with you and yours and I wish you all the best in these last ten days of what will go down, no doubt, as one of the most challenging years in the history of humanity. Are you looking forward to 2021 and expecting it to be better than 2020? Well, believe you me if you are reading this right now and still have breath in you and your sanity intact, I promise that you can take on absolutely anything!!!
Anywho, last week I started telling you about myself and I promised to share some more today. In fact I’m bursting at the seams to tell you all about my Epik life and the things I’ve figured out along the way but I need to break it up into bite size morsels so that you can get a chance to digest it little by little.
A continuación (Spanish for “to continue”) I will tell you about my name – Epik with a K Liz, just in case you were wondering about the slight aberration (and even if you weren’t). EPIK is an acronym which stands for “Me and my family” that is: Elizabeth, Pablo, Isabel and Kizhara – the initials of my first name combined with those of my three children. I came up with this name some time ago when trying to decide on a name for a youtube channel. I settled on EPIK TV as I hoped to create a channel where I would get to vlog about what it is like to be an ordinary mother of three children who all lead somewhat extraordinary lives and how I support them virtually and in person to continue to do so as we manoeuvre our way through this thrilling world.
Funny enough though I was so busy living my EPIK life I could never find the downtime to record any of it, because being the perfectionist that I am, I had this paralyzing idea that I needed to get “EVERYTHING RIGHT” before I could start. But I have since realized that “There is no need to be perfect to inspire others.” As you can, “Let others get inspired by how you deal with your imperfections”!! Ziad K Abdelnour.
On that note here is a brief (imperfect) intro of my family for reference; E- Elizabeth – Moi! Living my best life and always open to improvement! P- Pablo (really Juan-Pablo) my twenty-eight-year-old son who studied dance at Fordham University with Alvin Ailey dance school and is now married and “adulting” in New York. I – Isabel, my brilliant thirty-two-year-old firstborn, an advocate for alternate education and offering kids who may not be academically inclined a viable option to create sustainable lives for themselves (She lives in Jamaica.) And last but not least K- Kizhara, my littlest protégé, a bilingual thirteen year old getting on with her plans to become a vet whilst keeping busy cooking, editing videos, creating movies, doing gymnastics as well as working to maintain her position as the number two (2) -for now- under 16 girl surfer on the island all as a part of her unschooled life!!
Oh wait, I almost forgot about Ceci, my sixteen-year old warao foster child from the Orinoco River Delta! I suppose that is ok because it just means you must check in next week if you want to hear more. Before I go, here is a reminder that you do not have to wait to start living your own epic life. The world is a great place, life is good, and it is better for having you in it whether you believe it or not! But, “If you were able to believe in Santa for like eight years, you can believe in yourself for like 5 mins!!”- Anonymous This is EPIK Liz saying Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Chao for now!
