Michelle Williams, formerly known as a member of Destiny’s Child, recently sought help from healthcare professionals for mental health issues. In October of last year, she disclosed that she battled depression and suicidal thoughts while in the group, Destiny’s Child. As a mental health advocate, she has donated countless hours, much energy, and considerable resources in order to encourage others to make their mental health a priority. Recently, she decided to follow her own advice and check herself into a mental health facility. She announces via Instagram:
“For years I have dedicated myself to increasing awareness of mental health and empowering people to recognize when it’s time to seek help, support and guidance from those that love and care for your wellbeing.
I recently listened to the same advice I have given to thousands around the world and sought help from a great team of healthcare professionals.
Today I proudly, happily and healthily stand here as someone who will continue to always lead by example as I tirelessly advocate for the betterment of those in need.
If you change your mind, you can change your life.”
Michelle Williams has ultimately taken a huge step in her life, and has also helped to remove the stigma of addressing mental health. By celebrities and other public figures like herself taking steps to improve their mental health, they empower others to do the same.
